Children’s Literary Review
For years before they both achieved acclaim in their respective professions, good friends, actor Taye Diggs and illustrator, Shane W. Evans had the desire to collaborate on Chocolate Me!, a book based on experiences of being African American, feeling different and trying to fit in as kids.
Now that both men are fathers, they saw the need for a picture book that encourages all people, especially kids, to love themselves.
In the book, a boy is teased for looking different than the other kids. His skin is darker, his hair curlier. He tells his mother he wishes he could be more like everyone else. And she helps him to see how beautiful he really, truly is.
Taye’s second children’s book, Mixed Me! was inspired by actor Taye Diggs and Idina Mendel’s (of the movie Frozen fame) son, Walker. A little boy with wildly curly hair navigates the social terrain of being a biracial child.
Chocolate Me! and Mixed Me! are both available on Amazon.com.
