There will be periods of the day when you are more stressed than others. For example, in the morning, when everyone is running about to get ready for work and school, it can feel overwhelming, and this can set the tone for the whole day. Determine what these ‘hot periods’ are and devise strategies to make them less stressful. If morning time is difficult because the kids can’t decide what to wear and breakfast takes a long time, have them pick their clothing the night before (or choose it for them) and make breakfast ahead of time. Everything will be considerably more organized, and stress levels will be much lower. If your most stressful moment is when your children go to bed, devise a new routine or incentives system that works better than your existing one; ask your children what they need to make bedtime simpler.

Meditation techniques can help you de-stress when you’re feeling overwhelmed and ready to erupt at any moment. Meditation relaxes both the mind and the body, and your whole family could even meditate together if they like, providing everyone greater serenity and relaxation. Finding an exercise activity you can enjoy with the entire family is even better. Not only will you feel well, but you’ll feel good together, making wonderful memories and enjoying one other’s company. You can go for a long walk, ride your bike, swim, or perhaps attend a dancing class.
When was the last time you laughed heartily? Not just a smirk, not just a chuckle, but a genuine belly laugh? That is something you should do more of. People who are stressed have a lot of strain on their faces, which causes their jaws to hurt and headaches or even migraines. A good old-fashioned belly laugh might help to reduce tension and stress. So, think of some entertaining ways to incorporate humor into your life for both you and the kids. It’s all about having a good time in whatever manner you can – that’s how life should be.
