Reel Representation: The Black View-Master

April 1, 2021

April 1, 2021

Do you remember this toy? Well, it’s back, but this time with Black representation because #representationmatters!

Research shows that when Black children see themselves represented positively in their media, it fortifies their self-esteem and helps protect them from the impact of racism.

That’s why author, Veronica N. Chapman created a product that provides reel representation, pairing a love for the nostalgic View-Master with the empowering art of Black illustrators.

Reel Representation currently has three reel options:

  1. “Reading is FUNdamental” Reel: A Reel To Celebrate Literacy!
  2. “Black Hair Celebration” Reel: A Reel To Celebrate Black Hair!
  3. “In My Feelings” Reel: A Reel To Help Children Discuss Their Feelings

The View-Masters cost $30 and comes with one reel. Additional reels can be purchased for $10 each. Both can be purchased on their website at BlackBabyBooks.com.
