This privacy policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how their 'Personally Identifiable Information' (PII) and other personal information is being used online. PII, as described in US privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context.
Please read this privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how Successful Black Parenting Magazine ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, protects, shares, and otherwise handles your personal information across our website, newsletter, marketplace/shop, job postings, contests, and related services.
What personal information do we collect?
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
• Contact information such as your name, email address, mailing address, or phone number when you register, subscribe to our newsletter, fill out a form, comment, or contact us.
• Order and payment information when you purchase from our Marketplace/Shop, such as billing and shipping details. Payment card numbers are collected and processed directly by our payment processor (SureCart and its payment partners) — we do not store full card numbers on our own servers.
• Job application information if you apply through our Job Openings page, such as your name, email, phone number, resume/cover letter, and IP address.
• Contest, model search, and photo/video submission information, including images or video of you (or, with a parent or guardian's signed consent, your child) and any model release you sign.
• Technical and usage information collected automatically, such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, and referring pages, through cookies and similar technologies (see "Do we use cookies?" below).
When do we collect information?
We collect information from you when you register on our site, subscribe to our newsletter, place an order in our Shop/Marketplace, apply for a job, enter a contest or model search, fill out a form, leave a comment, or otherwise enter information on our site.
How do we use your information?
We may use the information we collect from you when you register, make a purchase, sign up for our newsletter, apply for a job, enter a contest, respond to a survey or marketing communication, browse the website, or use other site features in the following ways:
• To personalize your experience and deliver the content and product offerings you're most interested in.
• To improve our website and better serve you.
• To respond to customer service requests and job applications.
• To process orders placed through our Marketplace/Shop.
• To administer contests, model searches, and feature submitted photos/stories with your (or your child's, with parental consent) permission.

How do we protect your information?
Our website is scanned on a regular basis for security holes and known vulnerabilities in order to make your visit to our site as safe as possible. We use regular malware scanning.
Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of people who have special access rights and are required to keep the information confidential. All sensitive/credit information you supply is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology and processed through our payment provider's secure gateway — payment card data is not stored or processed on our own servers.
We implement a variety of security measures when a user enters, submits, or accesses their information to maintain its safety.
Do we use 'cookies'?
Yes. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your device through your web browser (if you allow) that let the site or service provider recognize your browser and capture and remember certain information.

Advertising & analytics (Google and others)
We use Google AdSense and Google Analytics on our website. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads and measure site usage based on your prior visits to our site and other sites, in accordance with Google's Advertising Principles and Privacy & Terms.
You can manage how Google personalizes ads to you at Google's Ad Settings, opt out of interest-based advertising from many providers at the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) opt-out page or Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) WebChoices tool, or opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser add-on.
Your Privacy Rights (California and other states)
If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or another state with a comprehensive consumer privacy law, you may have the right to: know what personal information we hold about you; delete your personal information; correct inaccurate personal information; opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (including for cross-context behavioral/targeted advertising); and limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
We do not sell personal information for money. Depending on how your state law defines it, our use of advertising cookies (like those from Google AdSense) may be considered "sharing" for targeted advertising. You can opt out by using the cookie controls described above, by enabling a recognized opt-out preference signal such as Global Privacy Control (GPC) in your browser — which we honor as a valid opt-out request where required by law — or by emailing us at info@SuccessfulBlackParenting.com with "Privacy Rights Request" in the subject line. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
An authorized agent may submit a request on your behalf; we may ask for written proof of your authorization and take steps to verify your identity before responding to any request.
California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)
CalOPPA requires commercial websites and online services that collect personally identifiable information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy stating exactly what information is collected and with whom it is shared. In accordance with CalOPPA, we agree that: users can visit our site anonymously; a link to this Privacy Policy is included on our homepage and on the first significant page after entering our site; our Privacy Policy link includes the word "Privacy" and is easy to find; you will be notified of policy changes on this page; and you can change your personal information by emailing us.
Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal, which most sites — including ours — do not currently act on, as there is no common industry standard for interpreting it. However, we do honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, a newer and more widely recognized opt-out preference signal, as a valid request to opt out of the sale/sharing of your personal information where required by applicable state law.
Children's Privacy & COPPA
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control of what personal information is collected from children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13, and our site is directed to parents and caregivers, not children.
When we feature a child's photo, story, or likeness — for example through our Model Search, contests, or editorial features — we require a signed model release or written consent from a parent or legal guardian before publishing, in addition to any consent required for the collection of the child's information itself. Fair Information Practices
The Fair Information Practice Principles form the backbone of privacy law in the United States. In line with these principles, should a data breach occur, we will notify affected users via email within the timeframe required by applicable law (and no later than 7 business days after discovery, where no shorter legal deadline applies). We also recognize the Individual Redress Principle, which gives individuals the right to pursue legally enforceable rights against data collectors and processors who fail to adhere to the law.
CAN-SPAM Act
We collect your email address in order to send information, respond to inquiries, and fulfill other requests. To be in accordance with CAN-SPAM, we agree to: not use false or misleading subjects or email addresses; identify marketing messages as advertisements in a reasonable way; include our physical business address; monitor any third-party email marketing service we use for compliance; honor opt-out/unsubscribe requests promptly; and allow users to unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of every email.
