Recommended for children Ages 7-12
What better way to celebrate Father’s Day and the lineage of dads than reading about Papa Lemon in the book series of
his namesake, “Papa Lemon’s Little Wanderers.”
Author Lehman Riley immortalized his childhood hero, his grandfather known as Papa Lemon, in children’s books that he wrote in honor of him. In Riley’s books, a group of children become explorers and travel back in time to visit great African-American leaders and to experience historical events in a time-machine that is an old train engine.
In the first book of the series, the group of Little Wanderers visit Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Their visit with Dr. King helps them finish a report for school that impresses their teacher.
At the end of the book, the author encourages young readers to explore their own family history and ask questions about their own grandparents.
This is an endearing book series and Papa Lemon’s magical train reminds me a bit of the Soul Train that chugged across the television screen every Saturday when I was growing up. The illustrations are artistic and unique.
Learn about history, talk about genealogy and awaken your child’s imagination. You can’t lose with this book series.
The books cost $5.99 plus $1.00 shipping and handling. You can find out more and purchase the book series at PapaLemonEdu.com.
