Successful Black Parenting Magazine is a leading digital platform dedicated to informing, empowering, and uplifting Black families. Through our website, social platforms, podcast (BACKtalk), and Black Parenting Academy, we provide culturally relevant content that supports parents raising Black children.
Position Overview
We are seeking a creative, culturally aware, and self-motivated Social Media Marketing Intern to support the growth and engagement of our digital platforms. This role is ideal for someone who understands African American culture, trends, and sensitivities and can translate that knowledge into meaningful, engaging content.
The intern will be responsible for executing daily social media activity, optimizing content for each platform, and contributing fresh ideas to increase audience growth and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Posting
- Schedule and publish daily content across platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and X
- Adapt and optimize content (captions, hashtags, thumbnails, formats) for each platform’s best practices
- Create or repurpose graphics, short-form videos, and captions using tools like Canva or similar
Platform Management
- Maintain a consistent posting schedule across all platforms
- Monitor comments, messages, and engagement, and respond when appropriate
- Track trending topics, sounds, and conversations relevant to Black parenting and culture
Growth & Engagement
- Propose and implement creative ideas to increase followers, reach, and engagement
- Identify opportunities for viral or high-performing content
- Assist with campaigns, launches, and promotional efforts
Strategy & Reporting
- Analyze performance metrics (views, clicks, shares, engagement rates)
- Provide weekly insights and recommendations for improvement
- Stay updated on platform changes, algorithm trends, and social media best practices
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of African American culture, community, and cultural nuances
- Active user of social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, X)
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Strong writing skills with attention to tone, voice, and audience
- Basic graphic design or video editing skills (Canva, CapCut, or similar tools preferred)
- Familiarity with social media scheduling tools is a plus
- Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling and digital media
