Dr. Tatyana kitchen, dsw, lmsw, is a social work educator, scholar, and mother whose work centers the experiences of black women and other historically marginalized communities. She approaches social work education, research, and practice through black feminist and intersectional perspectives, with particular attention to how race, gender, motherhood, professional identity, power, and structural inequities shape lived experiences. Dr. Kitchen earned her doctor of social work before the age of 30 and has professional experience across social work education, behavioral health, and hospice. Her scholarly interests include black women’s experiences, maternal mental health, health disparities, professional identity, and culturally responsive social work practice. Through her teaching and scholarship, she seeks to challenge deficit-based narratives, elevate lived experience as a legitimate source of knowledge, and contribute to more equitable approaches to social work practice and education.
