Successful Black Parenting Magazine is seeking fast, creative, and culturally aware Video News Production Interns to help us deliver timely, broadcast-style video news content focused on Black families, parenting, and children.
This is a hands-on opportunity for aspiring journalists, broadcasters, and video producers to build a real portfolio while contributing to a nationally recognized digital publication.
About the Role
We are building a digital news-style video segment that highlights trending and breaking stories impacting Black parents and families.
Interns will monitor daily news, identify relevant stories, and produce short-form video news clips (30–60 seconds) that feel like they belong on a professional broadcast.
These videos will be featured prominently on our website and across our platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor Google News alerts daily for topics related to:
- Black parents
- Black families
- Black children
- Identify timely, relevant, and newsworthy stories
- Script, record, and edit 30–45 second news-style video segments (occasionally up to 60 seconds)
- Deliver content with a fast turnaround (same day or next day when possible)
- Present stories in a clear, engaging, and authoritative broadcast style
- Incorporate branding elements (logos, lower thirds, captions) when assigned
- Maintain consistency with a professional news format and tone
What We’re Looking For
We are specifically seeking candidates with experience or training in:
- Broadcast Journalism
- Film Production
- Video Production
- Media or Communications
Ideal candidates:
- Have a strong on-camera presence or voiceover skills
- Can edit video quickly and cleanly
- Understand news pacing, tone, and structure
- Are highly reliable and deadline-driven
- Can work independently with minimal supervision
- Have a strong interest in stories impacting Black communities and families
High school seniors, college students, and recent grads are encouraged to apply.
Required Skills
- Video editing (CapCut, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or similar)
- Basic scripting for news delivery
- Understanding of short-form video storytelling
- Ability to produce broadcast-style visuals (lower thirds, captions, framing)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Submission Requirements (Important)
To be considered, applicants must submit ONE of the following:
Option 1:
- A sample of a previously created news-style video segment
OR
Option 2 (Preferred):
- A 30-second sample news clip created specifically for this application
(Topic can be any current or recent news story relevant to families or culture)
Note: This sample should resemble a real news broadcast segment.
Time Commitment
- Flexible schedule
- Must be available to check the news daily
- Expected output: 3–5 video clips per week
Compensation
- This is an unpaid internship
- Eligible for school credit
