This also gives you the option to curate a collection of small objects that complement each other. If you’re going with African masks, be sure to maintain authenticity. You can also add some woven fabrics, tribal-patterned prints, and family photos.  Be sure to spend some time learning about the symbolism of those masks and patterns. Finding genuine kente cloth can be a bit of a hassle, but you may try some African markets or order online to find something that works for your space. When ordering online, double-check with the retailer that the product is genuine and made ethically. 

• Using mud cloth, or Bogolanfini, from Mali is another unique option. It’s made of fermented cotton fabric and handwoven in mud dyes. Its rich earthy tones and geometric designs provide a grounding and visually appealing effect. Use it to upholster a small bench or accent chair, or to create custom curtains to add interest to your window treatments. Keep in mind that mud cloth has a tendency to bleach in direct sunlight, so be careful when deciding where to place your upholstered furniture.
