Becoming a new mom is a highly exciting experience, one that comes with many challenges and potentially sleepless nights, to begin with. And with all the new experiences, breastfeeding is one of the options for nursing your newborn baby. If you choose to breastfeed and are able to do so, then it’s worth knowing some helpful tips when caring for your breasts. Here are four breast care tips for new moms when breastfeeding.

Invest In Nursing Bras

Firstly, be sure to invest in some nursing bras. When you start breastfeeding, you’re going to notice a big difference in the size of your breasts, and as a result, your existing bras are not likely to fit anymore. It’s worth getting a few nursing bras, which are made specifically for breastfeeding. They allow for easy removal as well as providing all the space and support your breasts need when nursing.

The last thing you want to do is struggle when taking off your bra to feed your baby.

Use Nipple Shields

Breastfeeding and nursing your baby, in general, can be a great bonding experience. However, some experiences might not be so pleasant if your nipples are sore from the suckling and potential biting some babies will do. A good way to help protect your nips whilst also being able to feed your baby properly is by purchasing nipple shields.

Nipple shield breastfeeding can be highly effective in helping your baby gain access to the nipple, but can also protect your nipple from being bitten or agitation from the baby struggling to find it.

Keep Yourself Hydrated

Keeping yourself hydrated is important as a new mom which can be quite the challenge. By drinking plenty of water, you’re also going to ensure that you  produce plenty of milk for your baby to nurse. A good way of maintaining hydration is drinking a glass of water every time you breastfeed. That way, you know you’re getting in enough liquids.

Nurse Your Baby In A Quiet Environment

For your newborn, the world around you is a weird and wonderful one that they’re only just exploring. That means they might be distracted when feeding. A good way to tackle this is by taking yourself to a quiet environment so that you can nurse your baby in peace. It’s important to avoid disrupting your baby from feeding as much as possible. By nursing in a quiet area of your home or when you’re out and about, it’ll allow your baby to feed quicker than in a noisy or busy environment.

Being a new mom and breastfeeding is a joyous time. Utilize these tips in order to provide self-care. From the nipple shields to keeping well hydrated, it all helps to create successful nursing sessions with your baby.
