Now that we are in summer, we are all spending more and more time enjoying our gardens. When you have kids you are constantly on the lookout for ways to keep them entertained, and sometimes just letting them run around in the backyard isn’t enough to keep them focused and out of mischief.

Let’s have a look at some of the fun garden activities you could organize this summer:

1. A Scavenger Hunt

A Scavenger Hunt is a brilliant game for all the family to get involved in. Put together a list of hidden objects around the garden. It’s then up to the kids to go hunting and seek out all the hidden items, checking them off as they go. It’s up to you how easy or hard you make it, you may want to create a simpler version for the younger kids and give them individual lists.

2. Garden Games

There are numerous different games you can get for the garden from swingball and cricket through to giant 4×4 and cornhole games (find them here), Have a sit down with the kids and see what they would like to plat this summer.

3. Picking Daisies

If you have a lawn in your yard, you may have noticed daisies popping up just about everywhere in your garden. There are lots that you can do with daisies. From picking them to creating your own bouquet of flowers or making daisy chains, to digging them up to build your child’s own little garden. There usually loads of them so you will have plenty to last.

4. An Obstacle Race

Why not get creative and build an obstacle course that they can use over and over, again and again. Not only does it keep them busy but it also promotes a healthy amount of exercise. Make it so they have to go under, over, and through it.

5. Teddy Bear Picnic

Make some sandwiches or get your children to make their favorite foods, add in a few nice treats, and then gather in the garden for a teddy bear picnic.

6. Hide And Go Seek

Don’t underestimate simple games. They can bring just as much fun to the garden this summer as any other game. Have a hide and go seek game involving the whole family, find out who’s the best hider, and the best seeker. You could also just get a few balls out and play some catch or football. Being outside together will help to burn off energy while enjoying the sun.

7. Grow Some Vegetables

This is a brilliant way to get your children interested in gardening and also like vegetables. They are much more likely to want to try something that they have grown themselves in their garden. Have a look and see what vegetables are easy to grow such as beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, and make a start there.

These are just seven ideas to get your creative juices flowing with thinking of ideas for fun in the garden. What are you planning this summer? Please share some ideas in the comments below.
